Creative Adventures @ Caponi Art Park

Creative Adventures, a new outreach program at Caponi Art Park, opens up a world of unique art and nature-inspired experiences for low income children, youth, and families free of charge.

Groups visiting the park for this half-day program can choose between a hands-on art activity or an interactive performance (listed below). Both options also include an educational and tactile tour of the park's one-of-a-kind sculpture garden, which winds along hillsides and through woods within the parks 60 acre property. Please note that the tour and performance or art activity will be scheduled for the same day.

Our tours, activities, and performances can be adjusted to suit a wide age range of youth from preschool through middle school. Groups of up to 50 youth can be accommodated. One adult for every 10 youth is required to accompany the group. For children under 6 years of age, one adult is required for every 5 youth. Caponi Art Park and Learning Center is open May through October.

This is a free program for schools and other organizations who serve low-income and at-risk youth. Stipends for transportation costs may also be available.

To set up your visit to Caponi Art Park and Learning Center, please call 651-454-9412 or email creativeadventures [at] caponiartpark.org and mention your interest in the Creative Adventures program. We will work with you to set up a unique and individualized visit, guaranteed to be memorable for years to come.

CREATIVE ADVENTURES OPTION 1: Hands-on Activity and Tour

Caponi Art Park's hands-on activities are designed to enrich and reinforce the experience of touring Caponi Art Park. Drawing on nature for inspiration, children use found objects and other materials to create a work based on their experience in the park.

Activities range from sculpture making to exploring music in nature, with options for a range of group sizes and ages.

Dates are flexible and the hands-on activity option is available from May until the park closes for the season in October.

CREATIVE ADVENTURES OPTION 2: Interactive Performance and Tour

Creative Adventures participants may attend one of the following hour-long interactive performances. Children are encouraged to interact with performing artists, and can participate as they experience a new culture or watch as a story unfolds before their eyes.

Mu Daiko Japanese Taiko Drumming

Participants will experience the spirit of Japanese ritual and culture as they learn about this ancient art form that combines drumming with choreographed movement.

Christopher Lutter-Gardella and Puppet Farm Arts

Christopher Lutter-Gardella and Puppet Farm Arts will use whimsical and interactive puppets that are made almost entirely from re-used materials to showcase the artistic traditions of West African Masquerade, Caribbean Carnival, and European Spectacle Street Theater. Youth will join in the performance and explore puppetry, singing, and improvisation.

Kairos Dance Theatre

Kairos Dance Theatre will present an interactive performance/workshop. Participants will engage with the intergenerational dance group to explore modern dance, movement improvisation and folk dance. They will be encouraged to discover their own dance to share and story to tell.

This progrom is funded through a grant from the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendement.
