Dear Friends of the Caponi Art Park,

Spring is in the air believe it or not, and so we have begun preparing the Caponi Art Park for our opening in May. Between now and May 1 the park will undergo a quick, beautiful transformation from white to brown to green. Lucky for us, green is our favorite color. The only one sad to see the snow melt is the park’s unofficial greeter, Gremlin, the friendly Black Lab.

To celebrate Spring and the gates opening, Caponi Art Park would like to invite you to a Spring Open House. Stop by from 11:00am – 4:00pm for self-guided tours, light refreshments and other seasonal activities.

Be sure to check out the 2008 Season Calendar which is now up on the website. We are excited about another full season of programs including the Summer Performance Series, Family Fun Tuesdays, and Shakespeare Festival. A program gaining momentum this year is the Poets in the Park teen poetry slam. Poets is a platform for teens and young adults to express themselves through a creative art form in an inspiring venue. Participants will compete for $150 in cash prizes. The slam is free of charge for teen competitors and the public.

National Poetry Slam Champions In Town
Everyone (all ages) is invited to participate in the Spoken Word Master Class presented by Caponi Art Park and held at the Eagan Community Center. The Master Class will feature performances and workshops conducted by Ed Mabrey, 2007 Individual World Poetry Slam Champion (Columbus, OH), and Sonya “the Drama” Boom Renee, 2004/05 U.S. National Individual Poetry Slam Champion. Space is limited; Register today!

Come for the art, stay for the fun!

Community Service Opportunities

Caponi Art Park is looking for individuals, families and groups who are interested in volunteering and becoming more involved with this unique community space. Those interested should attend the Volunteer Orientation or send an email to volunteer@caponiartpark.org.

Volunteer positions include Event Hosts, Program Assistants, Tour Guides, Gardening and Clean-up volunteers, etc. In particular, persons with an interest or expertise in marketing and communication are invited to apply for a seat on the Communications Advisory Committee. During its monthly meeting, this committee—chaired by a member of the park’s board of directors—will help with special events, branding, audience development and cultivation of major donors.

Several volunteers are also needed immediately for the Spring Open House, Spring Clean-up and Spring Gardening events; email if interested in helping the park open with a bang!
