Outdoor Classroom Funded

We’ve done it!

We reached our goal of raising a total of $30,000 goal to build an outdoor classroom.

The Story:

A Friend of the Park who serves on the Wedum Foundation Board of Directors offered a donation and challenged us to think big and do something significant to improve the park’s educational programs for youth and seniors.

Our answer was to build a 20′ x 20′ outdoor classroom on the south side of Diffley and open up a whole new area of the park for programs, tours and other activities for all ages.

We matched the Wedum Foundation gift with a Capital Improvement grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council and an Arts Access grant from VSA Minnesota for a total of $24,000 toward the project. With a $30,000 budget we still needed an additional $6,000 to build the classroom.

In August we launched a successful Indiegogo campaign to raise the remaining funds. Construction began in mid-October and the structure was finished a month later.

Thank you to the individuals and companies whose donations made the classroom possible.

New Opportunities

Our programs are growing and we need more space to hold workshops, host tour groups and present performances.

This outdoor classroom will do just that plus it will be:Campaign Image3

  • A shelter for our programs in rainy weather.
  • An intimate setting for music and other kinds of performances.
  • More accessible than any other site in the park – just up the hill from the main parking lot.

The outdoor classroom opens up a whole new area of the park and creates a space for new program opportunities.
