Caponi Art Park
April 2009   //   Vol. 3 Issue 1
Friends of Caponi Art Park,

Yes folks, it's that time again! With 80 degree weather forecasted for Thursday, it may feel more like summer come May 1, the official spring season opening of the Art Park. We have lots of great activities taking place almost every week through October and some exciting announcements and events:
  • New Website! Peruse the park's redesigned website and all of the new features including, a page devoted to our friends, park attractions, detailed event descriptions, colorful photos and more great features to come.

  • Celebate spring at our Open House on Saturday, May 2. Explore wooded trails and sculptures, and enjoy refreshments courtesy of Cub Foods and Dunn Bros coffee of Eagan. A University of Minnesota Master Gardener will discuss vegetable gardening and composting from Noon-4pm. MN Valley Photography Club will conduct digital photography workshops intended to teach you how to take better photos. Workshops are for amateur photographers who have a basic understanding of their camera. Youth workshop at Noon; adult workshop at 2pm. And the best part: it's all free!

  • The 2nd annual Online Photo Contest kicks-off in May and runs through October. We want to see what the park looks like through your eyes. Sponsored by local studio Legacy Creative Images, $200 in CASH PRIZES will be awarded to both adult and youth catagories.

  • Dakota County Community Corrections Sentence to Serve program spent the entire winter removing Buckthorn, an invasive bush from Europe that chokes out native plants. Semi-truck loads full of Buckthorn are currently being hauled away which is why the park may look a bit bare.
