Season Opening will be greener than ever



“Spring is sooner recognized by plants than men.”
With Caponi Art Park so vibrantly blooming before the season opening, this Chinese proverb has never rung truer.

You are invited to celebrate the park’s season kickoff on Saturday, May 1st at a Spring Open House with family-friendly activities from 11:00am – 4:00pm. Event is free and open to the public. The focus of the open house is history and “the story of Caponi Art Park” to commemorate the Theater in the Woods 10th anniversary, Eagan’s 150th birthday, and the official rerelease of Anthony Caponi’s book “Voice from the Mountains.” The highlight of the event will be book readings, Q&A’s and book signings with the author scheduled at Noon and 2:00pm. Books will be for sale all day for $20.

Poetry Boot Camp
Kick-start your pencil and prose at a Poetry Boot Camp on Monday, April 26 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at the Wescott Library in Eagan. Presented by Caponi Art Park, the workshop is free and open to teens and adults (a $5 donation is suggested and helps to make this event possible).

National poetry slam champion (and local spoken word diva) Cynthia French will help you jump-start the writing process and get comfortable performing. This fast-paced workshop will utilize examples of poems and performances from a variety of poetry slam champions from around the country. Participants will be asked to read poems, participate in discussions and performance exercises, write and share their writing. To register, visit the Poets in the Park webpage or call 651.454.9412.

Teens interested in performing at the annual Poets in the Park Teen Poetry Slam on May 8 are encouraged to participate in the Poetry Boot Camp.

Spring Open House Event Volunteer (May 1)
A volunteer is needed to greet and direct guests as they arrive, provide information about the event activities and the 10th anniversary, collect donations, manage a scavenger hunt.
Shift: 10:30pm - 1:00pm
Skills: Personable, friendly and comfortable interacting with visitors

Nature-based Art Teacher and Docent (May ~ September)
We are seeking an intern or committed volunteer help further the park's mission of integrating creativity into everyday living through educational park tours and art enrichment activities. Docent/Art Intern will lead guided tours for children, adult, senior and school groups and will be able to engage visitors in sculpture art, earthworks and nature through the park's philosophy of bringing people together with art and nature. Docent/Art Intern will also conduct art enrichment activities for children, following a guided tour. Docent with extensive art and education background may have the opportunity to develop tours and enrichment activities.
Details:
- Docent/Art Intern will be typically be scheduled for 1-3 tours/activities a week for 1-3 hours at a time. Ideal candidate will be available May - September, however most activities occur June - August.
- Must have flexibility in schedule: Tours and art enrichment activities are primarily scheduled Tuesday-Friday 9am-4pm.
- Training will be provided. Assessment will be conducted to ensure a good fit.
