Dear Friends of the Caponi Art Park,

If summer is too hot for you to handle but you want to be outdoors, come out to Caponi Art Park and enjoy the shady trails and quiet spaces around this 60-acre wooded retreat. Don’t forget that this community park is free and open to the public 6 days a week, in addition to all of our events. Come to walk, relax and reflect, bring your dog (on a leash) and enjoy this unique space.

Did you catch the captivating performance by Mu Daiko recently? Wow. How great it was to see the Theater in the Woods filled with such an impressive crowd! Mu’s energetic and engaging performance was magic in our wooded amphitheater and the booming drums could be heard all throughout the park. We even had an unexpected visit from a spirited “lion”—performing Shishimai (Japanese Lion Dance)—who playfully taunted audience members. The audience also had a chance to try out their rhythmic abilities on large Taiko drums following the concert.

Don't miss our final Summer Performance Series event this Sunday, August 3rd at 6:30pm with a very special performance by Joe Chvala and the Flying Foot Forum. This foot-stomping foray, Flying Feet: The Percussion Project, melds percussion with tap dance and theatrical elements to create a highly physical and visceral experience using one-of-a-kind instruments and the human body and voice as instruments. Created by percussive dance gurus Joe Chvala and Karla Grotting, composer Mary Ellen Childs, and composer/percussionist Peter O'Gorman, this show received its world premiere at the Alvin Ailey Theater in NYC and its MN premiere at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis in 2007. "These artists have serious chops...the aural experience literally swept us away" -Elizabeth Zimmer, Chelsea Now, NY

Family Fun Tuesdays continues through August with barbershop singing, Chinese folk dance, Hmong children’s stories and creepy crawly things from Como Park Zoo. Pre-registration is required only for the Como Park Zoo program and is filling up fast; call 651.454.9412 to register today!

Come for the art, stay for the fun!
