THIS SUNDAY:
"New Music" in the Woods

Zeitgeist
Zeitgeist

Classical music lovers unite! Experience modern-day classical music at Caponi Art Park with one of the country’s most successful and innovative New Music ensembles. Zeitgeist performs on Sunday, August 23 with special music to include: “Salome’s Excellent Extension” by Terry Riley with La Monte Young and Steve Reich, a mesmerizing, minimalist piece; and the wild and creative “Wails” by Frederic Rzewski. Concert begins at 6:30pm in the Theater in the Woods amphitheater. In the event of rain, performance will be held 1/2mi east at Saints Martha and Mary Church, NE corner of Diffley Rd and Lexington Ave.

Based in St. Paul for over 30 years, Zeitgeist has earned an international reputation for superb craftsmanship and virtuosic performance of contemporary music. The list of notable composers they've commissioned and collaborated with is long and includes: John Cage, Frederic Rzewski, Terry Riley, Eric Stokes, Harold Budd, La Monte Young, Paul Dresher and Mary Ellen Childs.

New Music is an extension of the classical music tradition and celebrates experimentation and creativity. It incorporates elements of several musical genres, including classical, jazz, rock and world music. The members of Zeitgeist are: Heather Barringer, Patti Cudd, Pat O’Keefe and Shannon Wettstein.

Concert is FREE and open to the public. A $4 per person donation is suggested and helps to makes this program possible. Visit Summer Performance Series for more info.
