Caponi Art Park
August 2009   //   Vol. 3 Issue 7

July 26: It was quite an amazing sight

...seeing 650 people in the Theater in the Woods enjoying the rich, layered sounds of Ticket to Brasil; watching the children dance together on the grassy hills without inhibition; hearing the flute and guitar carry through the trees. It's both heart warming and satisfying to see more and more people taking advantage of the unique cultural experiences Caponi Art Park offers to the community. Come this Sunday for another one-of-a-kind adventure...

Waltz right into the Theater in the Woods on Sunday, August 9 for a delightful family-friendly performance by Beyond Ballroom Dance Company. Beyond Ballroom demonstrates its flair for presenting ballroom dance with a twist in its latest original production “The Book of Love.” Inspired by the glory days of partner dancing, when Fed Astaire swept Ginger Rogers across the stage, “The Book of Love” blends tradition with contemporary style and panache. Sunday’s show will also include a special preview of “From the Belly of the Wolf and Other Tales.” This production, filled with enchanting fairy tales like Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella, will debut in April 2010 at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis.

Beyond Ballroom Dance Company is a groundbreaking company that has turned the rules of ballroom dance competition upside down, creating productions described as “an eye-opening look at what ballroom dance in the 21st century can be” (Star Tribune). Beyond Ballroom strives to introduce the artistry and technique of ballroom dance to the entire community.

Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a concert experience like none other. Concert begins at 6:30pm and is free and open to the public. A $4 per person donation is suggested and helps to make this program possible. In the event of rain, performance will be held August 16, 6:30pm.

A New Challenge!
All of the programs offered at Caponi Art Park are free to the public. We strongly believe in making the Art Park an affordable and accessible cultural center – a value we feel more committed to than ever during these challenging times.

But we can’t do it alone. Your support it critical. As a nonprofit we rely on contributed income to keep the Art Park and its programs alive. The Katherine B. Andersen Fund of the Saint Paul Foundation is challenging donors to help raise $15,000 in new or increased gifts. The Andersen Fund will match these contributions dollar for dollar. Please help us meet the challenge!
