December 2008   Vol 2 | Issue 9

♪ These are a few of our favorite things… ♫

The sweet sound of music was heard throughout the woods of Caponi Art Park this summer. As we move into a silver white winter and put on our warm woolen mittens, we enjoy reflecting on some of our favorite things over the past season:

  1. Romantic Comedies—we’re referring to the witty melodrama of the Shakespeare Festival of course;
  2. Children and parents bustin’ a move with African American dance artist Kenna Sarge during Family Fun Tuesdays;
  3. Volunteers getting down and dirty in the amphitheater planting 50 Juniper trees donated by Gerten’s;
  4. National spoken word champions from L.A. and Ohio teaching slam poetry to teens and adults;
  5. Colorful fall photographs of the Art Park from our first-ever digital photography contest;
  6. Educational park tours introducing students to nature and sculpture art —like the 80 East-Metro high school students from Crosswinds Arts and Science magnet school;
  7. Mu Daiko’s dancing lion eating oranges and taunting audience members in the Theater in the Woods;
  8. Traffic Jams! Throngs of people coming out for the Medieval Fair and Summer Performance Series concerts filling parking lots to the brim… We can’t complain about that!
  9. Tony sculpting a beautiful rock garden and stone retaining walls to greet visitors next spring;
  10. Friends and supporters who have generously donated time and charitable gifts to the Art Park over the past year. We cannot THANK YOU enough.

A year-end contribution to Caponi Art Park is one investment that can have a lasting impact on enriching your daily life. Your gift will help the Art Park continue to be an accessible cultural resource for all to enjoy. It will ensure that we can offer arts activities and performances, free of charge, as well as maintain the beautiful sculptured grounds.

Meet the Challenge: The Katherine B. Andersen Fund of the Saint Paul Foundation has made a challenge to our supporters to raise $20,000 in new or increased gifts. The Andersen Fund will match these contributions dollar-for-dollar. By making a new gift or by increasing your contribution from last year you can double the impact of your gift.

Giving has never been easier: Donate securely and quickly through PayPal (no PayPal account needed!)

Did you know? Many businesses offer gift programs that match their employee’s charitable contributions. Ask your employer about their charitable programs and double your support for the Art Park.

Favorite Thing #9:

Kenna Sarge Family Fun Tuesdays

Kenna Sarge teaches hip-hop dance during her Journey Through Black Dance workshop at Family Fun Tuesdays in July.

The mission of the Caponi Art Park and Learning Center is to provide a cultural and educational center where people of different talents and interests come together with art and nature, to restore, nurture and maintain the basic unity of the human spirit.
