These are a few of our favorite things from 2009
Back by popular demand!
- Dancing in the rain: Families merrily salsa danced and meringued at Family Fun Tuesdays with artist Jae Phillips.
- Colorful ballroom gowns sweeping across the stage: Beyond Ballroom Dance Company wowed us with their gorgeous partnering and unique storytelling ability.
- Miss MN and Eaganite Brooke Kilgarriff making a special appearance: She sang the National Anthem during the Dakota Valley Summer Pops Orchestra concert.
- Virtuosic Chinese flutist Zhang Ying and colorful storyteller Rhonda Lund: They captivated children and adults with ancient folklore of the Far East during Family Fun Tuesdays.
- Park facelifts: A shade garden was planted this spring with the help of Master Gardener Beth Betts and volunteers from UPS and the community. Tony put in retaining walls and brick pavers along some of the trails.
- All the wildlife! Wild turkey, great-horned owl, eagle, deer, turtle, colorful birdies, squirrel, rabbit, and man’s best friend. Just steer clear of the coyote (I kid, I kid…)
- Connecting with our friends: We took big measures this season to stay connected with friends and supporters and reach those interested in art and nature. We launched a shiny new website, revamped the newsletter, started a Facebook fan-page, and joined GiveMN to encourage online philanthropy. We may prefer tangible art and wild nature, but we have to be masters of our virtual domain too.
- Death to Buckthorn: Community service crews worked for months to remove this invasive bush and will continue this coming winter. The park looks a bit bare, but soon native growth will fill in the underbrush.
- Rolling down grassy hills: Children rolled and laughed in the Theater in the Woods amphitheater to the hot sounds of Ticket to Brasil.
- Medieval Fair patrons—all 1,100 of them: They enjoyed period games, armored combat, music, crafts and more with the Society for Creative Anachronism.
- Volunteers: We cannot thank you enough. And we had such a wonderful time at the appreciation event sharing good food, stories and laughs together.
- Children exuberant about nature and art: It’s not every day kids get to see a deer hoof print, a lightning-struck tree, an eagle’s feather or the biggest snake in Eagan.
