Celebrate Fathers' Day at Caponi Art Park

This Fathers' Day, Sunday, June 19, the Minnesota Sinfonia will perform their summer family pops concert at 7:30 p.m. in Caponi Art Park's Theater in the Woods outdoor amphitheater. Bring your family and friends to listen to the Sinfonia perform music from Harry Potter, one of Johann Strauss's waltzes, some ragtime, familiar classics, marches and even a polka!



The Fathers' Day concert is a part of Caponi Art Park's free summer performance series, a family-friendly program that features a wide variety of music, theater and dance concerts. A $4 per person donation is suggested.


Shakespeare Presented in the Park
on Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25

Come for a summer evening of tragedy, comedy and romance as local theater companies pay homage to William Shakespeare's work in Caponi Art Park's beautiful Theater in the Woods outdoor amphitheater. Cromulent Shakespeare Company will present Julius Caesar on Friday, June 24. The Minnesota Shakespeare Company will present A Midsummer Night's Dream on Saturday, June 25. Shows begin at 6:30 p.m. and are free with a $4 suggested donation.

For more information, including descriptions of the two plays, visit our website. Sunday, June 26 is scheduled as a rain date in the event of poor weather. Any weather-related announcements will be made on our website, Facebook page, Twitter account, and via email.


Family Fun Tuesdays in June

Next Tuesday, June 21, come experience storyteller Maren Hinderlie present the magical world from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Listen to stories of magical creatures and participate in songs and simplified re-enactments from the well-known play.

Don't miss Open Eye Figure Theatre's popular Driveway Tour on June 28 as they return to Caponi Art Park with an engaging puppet show that will have children and adults laughing together. The full schedule for Family Fun Tuesday is available on our website. Programs will only be canceled in the event of severe weather or if the artist is unable to perform. In case of rain, events will be held under a canopy.

Anthony Caponi Honored with Eleven Who Care Award

Anthony Caponi, founder and artistic director of Caponi Art Park and Learning Center, has received an Eleven Who Care Award for his service to the community. The Eleven Who Care program recognizes volunteers who have made invaluable contributions to Minnesota and its citizens. The Eleven Who Care segment will air on June 22 at 10 p.m. on Kare 11, and Anthony will be interviewed and the segement will re-air on Sunrise on June 23 and Saturday Morning, June 25.


Select Tuesday Afternoon Performances Now Open to Day Care Groups

Day cares and other childrens groups are welcome to come to performances on select Tuesday afternoons at 1 p.m. Performance dates include June 28 (Open Eye Figure Theater's Puppet Show), July 19 (Sumunar's Indonesian Gamelan and Kechak), and Aug. 2 (West Aftrican Drum and Dance). Photography Workshop at Caponi Art Park

Caponi Art Park will host its first introductory digital photography workshop in conjunction with the 2011 photography contest and exhibition. Join Michael Proebstle from Legacy Creative Images on July 15 from 10-11:30 a.m. and learn basic tips to improve travel, candid, landscape and macro shots. You'll also discover new tricks with your point and shoot or SLR digital camera. Please call 651.454.9412 to register.
