Caponi Art Park
May 2009   //   Vol. 3 Issue 2

Friends of Caponi Art Park,

YES, WE'RE OPEN! Not to toot our own horn... but if you are looking for a quiet place to walk, enjoy art, be close to nature, play with your children, walk your dog, watch a performance and roll down grassy hills--all in one day--then Caponi Art Park is the place for you! We are now open through October, everyday except Monday from 9 a.m. to dusk.

Linder's April showers lead to May flowers at the Art Park. Over the next few weeks volunteers will be sprinkling a bit of color around the park with annual and perennial flowers and plants. If you are a gardener yourself, you can support the Art Park by shopping at a Linder's Flower Mart or garden center from May 15 - 18. With this invite, 15% of your pre-taxed purchase will be donated to the Art Park. Thanks Linder's!

Poets in the Park 2007On Saturday May 9, teens will be exhibiting their lyrical stylings and competing for $150 in cash prizes at the Poets in the Park teen poetry slam. The event is open to the public and will include performances by 2006 Individual MN Poetry Slam Champion Cynthia French, Michael Mlekoday and Apple Valley High School hip-hop dance students. Teens ages 13-19 can register to participate from 1:30 - 2 p.m. the day of the slam.

Poets in the Park is a collaboration between the School of Environmental Studies and Caponi Art Park. As a part of their senior project, students Niccole Hebdon and Luke Sims have been learning how to organize and market an event for their peers. Year after year we are simply amazed by the level of talent in these budding artists. Come support the young writers and performers in our community!
