Photography Programs

Caponi Art Park’s photography program, sponsored by Legacy Creative Images, continues to offer resources for aspiring photographers.

In addition to the annual photo contest culminating with a gallery exhibition, Caponi Art Park's photo programs also include two photo photography workshops, and a Family Portraiture Day.

Digital Photography Workshops

Introduction to Digital Photography
Saturday, June 8, 2013
10 a.m. to noon
Cost: $5 per participant
Ages: 10 and up (under 15 with adult)

Beginning photographers of all ages will learn basic tips to improve photographs, including elements of composition, exposure, and macro photography. This workshop will include a formal lesson, followed by time to photograph in the park with the instructor on hand to answer any questions and give feedback.

Storing and Archiving Your Digital Images
Saturday, August 10, 2013
10 a.m. to noon
Cost: $5 per participant
Ages: 15 and up

This workshop will address the fundamental methods for naming, storing and handling files. By using appropriate file and folder naming strategies along with best practices for storing and organizing your files, you will be able to make the most of your image collection.

Family Portraiture Day

Caponi Art Park will host a Family Portraiture Day with Legacy Creative Images. On August 24th, Legacy Creative Images will be at the park to take outdoor photos of families, couples or individuals.

For a $40 sitting fee, you will receive a private 20-minute session and digital copies of 5 photos of your choosing. Additional digital files and photo prints are available for a fee. It's a great opportunity for friends of the Art Park to get their family pictures taken in a beautiful space by a professional photographer.

Reservations required. Please contact 651.454.9412 to reserve your time slot. One appointment per family, please. Be prepared with credit card information to pay for Portrait Day when reserving your time slot.

Photography Exhibition at the Eagan Community Center
Date TBD

Select photographs will be shown in an exhibition this November and December at the Eagan Community Center. All will be invited to a public opening reception and awards ceremony at the Community Center.

To enter the photo contest:

1. Submit up to 5 of your best photographs by email to photo@caponiartpark.org by 11:50pm Central Standard Time on October 6, 2013. Photos should be a minimum of 1200 pixels on the shortest dimension

2. Please title the file of the photo using the following template: phototitle_firstname_lastname.jpg
e.g. CaponiArtParkSculpture_John_Doe.jpg

3. Along with your photos, include your city and state, and age if entering the youth category

Contest rules:

• Photo(s) must be submitted by 11:59pm Central Standard Time on October 6, 2013. Limit is 5 photographs.

• Photos must have been taken at the park in 2013;

• People captured in photos must consent use of their image, with exception of artists contracted for Art Park programs and events;

• Photo must have been taken by the person submitting it.

Your Rights: You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit -- including ownership if applicable -- other than those rights licensed in the next sentence. By entering the contest, you hereby grant to Caponi Art Park (i) a nonexclusive, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free license to reproduce, distribute, publicly display and publicly perform the photographs you submit to Caponi Art Park, and (ii) the right to use your name, city and state of residence in promotions and other publications.
