Cache Number 4 (For Kyza)

Cache Number 4 (For Kyza) was the fourth in a series dealing with numerical relationships. It was made in exactly one year of time and originally included glass boxes nestled into the “wagon” space that formed the shape of a dome like a turtle shell. Because glass boxes aren’t suitable outdoors, they have been replaced by small objects in the gridded spaces of the wagon. The idea is that objects may be added, subtracted, and changed over time.

Potratz has deep ties to Eagan and Caponi Art Park. He spent summers at his Grandfather’s farm in rural Eagan helping with the harvest using animal drawn wagons, part of the inspiration for this work. Potratz was an early student of the park’s founder, Anthony Caponi, and served as board chair from 2015-19, leading the organization through the transition after Tony’s passing.
