Steel Helmets

Steel Helmets is a commentary on rigidity of military life and the cruelty of war. This sculpture, though using authentic WWII helmets, was made during the Vietnam War. It still resonates today as an ongoing expression of the unchanging nature of war.

Caponi was drafted into the US Army in 1942 and served in the Allied Military Government in Italy until the end of the war in 1945.
