The Fox & Beggar Theater presents its eighth feature-length production, “TIGRE! TIGRE!”,
a new show about humankind’s absurd relationship to technological progress.

The story begins at the dawn of the Scientific Revolution, where a pair of Medieval two-dimensional paper dolls are building the first thing to exist in the next dimension– a human. Combining puppetry, traditional clown theater, and a live score influenced by everything from Medieval court music to Gilbert & Sullivan, “TIGRE! TIGRE!” explores humanity’s relationship to technology while asking the fundamental question: what drives us to perpetually open new doors that we know we won’t be able to close?

Magic and Myth: A Conversation with The Fox and Beggar Theater’s Nat Allister
“In a world that feels like it might be going insane, I try to find peace in simple stories of magic and myth,” Nat Allister tells Caponi Art Park. Since founding The Fox and Beggar Theater in 2014, Nat sought to bring such stories to audiences across the country. “Each of our eight shows have somehow combined the pillars of circus, theater, dance, and puppetry to tell dark stories of enchantment through visual spectacle, always with an original score performed live.”
This September at the park, The Fox and Beggar present “Tigre! Tigre!”, the newest production to be performed atop the Gonzago– the theater’s hand-painted, solar-powered traveling outdoor stage. “There’s so much fun stuff in this show,” Nat says. “Plus, getting to watch it outdoors on the Gonzago is a special sort of experience, especially in autumn, the best time of the year.” Featuring a live score, original choreography, and dazzling puppetry, “Tigre! Tigre!” is a timely exploration of “humanity’s absurd relationship with technology.”
“Any fans of puppetry, operetta, or musical theater will be in for a treat. But our show’s also great for families and couples just looking for a nice outing.” But Nat assures, “whether it’s your first or fiftieth play,” there is something for everyone to enjoy in “Tigre! Tigre!” This accessibility is by design. “We aim to pull down barriers to the performing arts whenever and however we can. Theater has little power if it’s only seen by the intelligentsia and the well-to-do,” Nat tells CAP. “It is powerful when it is broadly popular, and can faithfully reflect the delights, questions, and fears of the real society around it.”
In addition to serving as The Fox and Beggar’s executive director, Nat is also a camp counselor for Adventures in Cardboard, through which he discovered Caponi Art Park. “I was enchanted the first time I stepped foot in the park,” he explains. “I go whenever I can.” We invite you to experience this enchantment for yourself Thursday, September 25th at 7:00pm for “Tigre!
